Thacker Caskets is thrilled to commemorate 85 years of dedicated service in the funeral services and supply industry in 2024. Established in 1939 as a modest casket jobber [wholesaler] in the heart of Washington, D.C., Thacker Caskets has evolved into the largest family-owned and -operated casket supplier in the United States.
The journey began with Carl C. Thacker, who founded the company in 1939 to serve the greater D.C. market as a local funeral supply jobber. Carl’s legacy was carried forward by his wife, Audrey, and his son, CJ. Together, they were unwavering in their commitment to realizing Carl’s dream, leading the company to unprecedented growth and success.
Reflecting on the company’s past, Audrey Thacker said, “As I watch Thacker Caskets celebrate its 85th year, I am filled with pride and gratitude. This company has been a cornerstone of my life, and seeing it flourish even as I step back is a testament to the dedication and integrity that have been its foundation. The values we instilled – compassion, quality and service – continue to guide every decision. Watching my son and grandchildren carry forward this work with the same dedication and integrity reassures me that what we started all those years ago will continue to make a difference for many more years.”
Now proudly operated by two generations, Thacker’s enduring legacy is a testament to continuous innovation and dedication to the funeral industry. Thacker Caskets is proud to offer made-in-America products, with its metal caskets crafted at its manufacturing facility in Florence, Alabama.
Said CJ Thacker, CEO: “Our 85-year journey is a testament to the trust and loyalty our customers have placed in us over the decades. [W]e’ve remained committed to being the most trusted funeral supplier by providing honest products at an honest price with honest service. As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence…”
Thacker also values excellent customer service ideals, which is evident in that they were awarded #1 in service five years in a row in a nationwide survey conducted by Funeral Service Insider. In addition, Thacker Caskets is consistently ranked among the top three in quality… a fundamental principle for Thacker since its inception.
The company’s growth continues with relocation in June 2020 to a newly constructed, fully customized facility in Monrovia, Maryland, which now serves as the headquarters and Baltimore/D.C. Metro-based warehouse. In addition, the company has acquired several casket companies… and expanded into Texas this year with its 17th distribution center.
