Good Morning Las Vegas Saturday at 6 AM on KTNV-TV

06/24/2025
really this new complex is helping address the affordable housing crisis here in southern nevada. And now I'm here with the director of development arm and thank you for having us. You guys have a special day ahead of you today. Key. Tell us a little bit about the grand opening of parsing scare at. Yeah. We're really excited to be hosting our ceremonial grand grand opening of their room at powerball. It's a vase and coordinate a living about as 60 the formal senior housing community. Perfect are actually in one of the union to be could just take a little walk. So we could show what seniors can expect. What can you would you have to do to qualify to get one of these parts of the community is for those 55 and older. I primarily serves those at 50 60% below the area, median income. >> So in order to qualify for one you have to make for less than 42,800 and you're all in red, including utilities will be 11. 47. Yeah, let's talk a little bit about affordable housing crisis here in the valley. How important is it for complex like this? And then? >> Yeah, just that the housing crisis really been affecting all of us in southern nevada. >> Seniors in particular vulnerable population because on fixed income, these types of public, private partnerships, really? It's amazing what we can create and be able to provide housing. Innovation has another 6 planned or under construction communities. One other one opening up in august of this year. >> Remind me how many units are occupied and how many are available. Here at airline that pavel, we are 47% occupied in 81%, at least as now. A senior is interested in moving in one of these units. How can they do that? They can either stop by or leasing office starting a heirloom by vincent dot com. So come check us out. Perfect in the grand opening is 10. So if you guys want to stop by and look at a union, you can we will have all of this information on our website ktnv dot com. For now, I'll send it back to you guys. >> All right, karen, thank you. Drivers in summerlin and the northwest valley should plan ahead for major overnight closures on the 2.15 beltway this week. The beltway will shut down between far hills avenue and summerlin parkway for 2 nights northbound lanes closed wednesday night at 8 and will stay closed until 5 thursday morning. Then the southbound lanes closed thursday night at 8 until 05:00am friday. Officials say the closures are necessary so crews can set bridge supports for the summerlin parkway bridge. Widening detours will be in place but expect delays if you're traveling through the area overnight. Justin, something really early morning. Commuters will definitely keep in mind. Yeah. Catch you off guard. And here is a look out and that west side of the valley summerlin parkway around the 2.15, actually one of our few. >> Fender benders was listed as westbound summerlin parkway near the 2.15 interchange. Here's the 2.15 southbound south of summerlin parkway down toward charleston. But we do have a tow truck on the scene. Vehicle pulled over on the right shoulder. This was in the middle of the 2.15, about 10, 15 minutes ago. So we're glad that that has moved generally. We're moving along. Okay. Here may have a fender charleston and durango populate the map here soon enough not slowing things down. 95 northbound near downtown slight slowdown. But we're doing great on the freeways around the valley trop east of boulder, highway fender there. No big extra time required, though, on the freeways right now. Justin, thank you. >> First of its kind program in nevada is addressing a growing need in an industry will all eventually need. The college of southern nevada is launching the state's first funeral services degree program. This fall inside this unique classroom where students will learn the business of saying goodbye. When it comes earns they're not a standard. Now they come in different shapes and sizes. This is something you might expect to hear at a funeral home. But instead it's a conversation that will take place at the college of southern nevada where this fall. >> The school will enroll. Students in nevada's first funeral services program led by raymond get into junior. Why is this program necessary? It's giving you the fundamentals of understanding what we do day in and day out. We work with so many different cultures, faith wise. >> Ethnicity, wise. And everybody has a different way of doing things. And if you don't have the education behind what we're doing, it's hard to work within the industry. The two-year program will end with an associate in applied science leading to careers as an vollmer's funeral rangers or directors. Something needed in this country. >> The national funeral directors association found a labor shortage in the industry in 2022. Spurred on by the pandemic. It expects the employment rate in the field to grow by 4% through 2030, making future hiring a challenge without a pipeline of workers, even though we're dealing with death, we're dealing with people that are alive. You're dealing with their family members after the death occurs. >> And they need people that are compassionate that are carrying that have integrity.
