Each year, a portion of the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) curriculum undergoes review. This important process is generously supported by a grant from the Hilgenfeld Family Foundation for Mortuary Education. Volunteers are now being sought to participate.
Educators with experience teaching the subject areas under review are encouraged to apply. Participants will be selected by the ABFSE Curriculum Committee from submitted resumes.
In 2026, the curriculum review workshop will be hosted by San Antonio College from June 4–7 (with working sessions held June 5–6). The following curriculum outlines will be reviewed:
- History of Funeral Service & Embalming
- Pathology
- Sociology
ABFSE will cover the cost of lodging and meals for participants; travel expenses are the responsibility of the individual.
This workshop offers an excellent professional development opportunity and provides participants the chance to contribute their expertise to the advancement of funeral service education.
Representatives from NFDA, NFDMA, CANA and The Conference typically participate, but practitioner representation is also an important component of the review process.
Interested candidates should submit a brief resume outlining relevant professional and teaching experience by March 16. Resumes may be emailed to Trudy Ellmore (trellmore@abfse.org) or Jzyk Ennis (jennis@jeffersonstate.edu).
