On January 27, NFDA CEO Christine Pepper marks an extraordinary milestone: 40 years of service to the National Funeral Directors Association and the funeral service profession.
Four decades ago, Christine walked through NFDA’s doors into a profession that looked very different from the one we know today. Since then, she has helped guide NFDA and the funeral service profession through periods of growth, challenge, transformation and progress. Her steady leadership, deep respect for the profession, and unwavering commitment to funeral directors and the families they serve have left an indelible mark.
Christine’s 40-year journey is one worth reflecting on, and members are invited to explore it in two meaningful ways:
- Read the January issue of The Director magazine for a special profile highlighting Christine’s career, leadership philosophy and lasting impact on NFDA and the profession. It’s a thoughtful look at the experiences, values and decisions that have shaped her four decades of service.
- Listen to the January episode of A Brush With Death, which features a candid and personal conversation between Christine and host Gabe Schauf. In the episode, Christine reflects on navigating a profession once dominated by men, witnessing the growing leadership of women in funeral service, managing the evolving relationship between funeral directors and the media, and carrying the responsibility of leading through complex and often challenging moments. She also shares her vision for the future of death care – informed by a rare, front-row seat to its past and present.
On behalf of NFDA’s Board of Directors, staff and members, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Christine Pepper for 40 years of leadership, integrity and dedication. Her legacy continues to shape NFDA and inspire the profession she has served so faithfully.
