Unleash the Power of Learning: Education & Preconvention Seminars at the 2025 NFDA Convention

July 25, 2025

At the heart of the 2025 NFDA International Convention & Expo is education that moves the profession forward. Whether you are new to funeral service or a seasoned expert, the convention’s educational offerings in Chicago will equip you with the tools, insights and inspiration to meet evolving consumer expectations, strengthen your business and serve families with compassion and excellence.

Preconvention Seminars: Dive Deep Before It Begins

Arrive early to take part in five powerful preconvention seminars designed to provide immersive, skill-building experiences:

  • Certified Celebrant Training (Oct. 24-26): Presented by Glenda Stansbury and Matt Bailey, this NFDA-hosted InSight Institute seminar equips participants to create personalized, meaningful ceremonies.
  • Arranger Training (Oct. 25): Presented by Lanae Strovers, NFDA Trainer, this interactive session strengthens communication and personalization skills during arrangements.
  • Cremation Certification Program (Oct. 25): Led by NFDA's Michael Nicodemus and Tim Copeland, this session offers must-know cremation knowledge and best practices. Sponsored by Implant Recycling.
  • Enhancing Open Casket Viewings (Oct. 26): With Glyn Tallon, learn advanced restorative techniques for trauma cases.
  • Caring for Ourselves (Oct. 26):  Death educator and thanatologist Dr. Sara Murphy shares strategies for emotional resilience and self-care.

Convention Education Sessions: Learn from the Best

With more than 30 workshops spanning October 26-29, NFDA Convention education sessions cover a full range of topics:

  • Embalming & restorative art
  • Grief & aftercare
  • Compliance & legal issues
  • Consumer engagement & marketing
  • Business strategy & leadership
  • Innovation & sustainability in disposition practices

You’ll hear from top minds like Dr. Damon de la Cruz (solo embalming prep), Alain Koninckx (uncommon injection sites), Michelle Johnston (airbrush cosmetics), Jeff Smith (business operations), Georganne Bender (consumer behavior), and Angela Human & Autumn Rothermel (rethinking digital marketing).

More than half of this year's education sessions will be presented by first-time NFDA speakers, bringing fresh voices and new ideas to the profession. Education sessions are sponsored by TruStage.

Translation & Captioning Services: Enhancing Accessibility for All

To ensure a more inclusive learning environment, NFDA is offering real-time translation and captioning for all keynote and education sessions using Wordly, a web-based tool that requires no downloads or special equipment. By scanning a QR code in the session room, attendees can view live captions or listen to translations in over 60 languages on their mobile devices. Wordly is also helpful for those who are hard of hearing or seated farther from the presenter. NFDA recommends using headphones to enhance the experience and minimize disruptions.

Make the Most of Your Convention Experience

Whether you want to sharpen your technical skills, strengthen your leadership abilities, connect with like-minded professionals or stay on top of emerging trends, the NFDA Convention’s education sessions and preconvention seminars offer something for every role in the funeral home.
