Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed “The Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act” (H.R. 8371), a comprehensive omnibus package of veterans legislation. Among its many provisions, the legislation includes a vital update to veterans’ burial benefits – and allowance for veterans who die from a non-service-connected disability at home while receiving hospice care furnished by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), a longstanding advocate for improving veterans’ funeral and burial benefits, strongly supported this legislation.
