NFDA Past President Bill Wappner, who has been serving as the United States’ representative to the Fédération Internationale des Associations de Thanathologues – International Federation of Thanatologists Associations (FIAT-IFTA) since 2017, was installed as the organization’s president during its 2024 Convention, which took place September 18-20 in Krakow, Poland.
Bill is the fourth funeral director from the United States to serve as president of FIAT-IFTA. He follows in the footsteps of Raoul Pinette (1976-78 FIAT-IFTA President), Ronald Whiston (1978-80 FIAT-IFTA President) and William Hocker (1992-94 FIAT-IFTA President).
Bill’s continued leadership in FIAT-IFTA not only showcases the expertise of U.S. funeral service professionals on the global stage but also strengthens our international ties within the profession, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
FIAT-IFTA is comprised of members from throughout the globe and focuses on uniting funeral service associations worldwide to promote professional standards, encourage cultural exchange and advocate for the industry in the international arena
