Are You Sure?

December 07, 2023

Can you say, with absolute certainty, that your funeral home is in compliance with all relevant OSHA statutes and could pass an inspection?

If not, do you have $45,000 (or more!) to pay a fine should an inspector find you are out of compliance with the Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment or Blood Borne Pathogens Standards?

You can increase your confidence in passing an inspection by contacting NFDA Endorsed Provider Certified Safety Training (CST) for help! CST, which is led by health and safety expert Mark Harrison, offers three customizable OSHA compliance tools to help funeral homes like yours ensure they are complying with OSHA safety regulations and protecting their staff.

CST is the leader in OSHA compliance for funeral homes. Backed by more than 30 years of industry experience and Certified Safety Professionals, CST matches industry expertise with customizable programming to make sure that customers have the highest-quality safety programs, plans, training, and advice. From bloodborne pathogens to hazard communications to personal protective equipment to dozens of other topics, CST’s Certified Safety Professionals have successfully helped thousands of employees work safer and smarter.

Customized OSHA Compliance Tools

Ensuring health safety guidelines and procedures are documented and available to all funeral home staff is a vital first step in protecting employees. CST offers a customized Funeral Home and Cemetery OSHA Manual that covers the regulations that apply to the business.

After completing a short questionnaire about their business, CST will create a custom manual that funeral home owners and managers can share with their staff. The manual will cover the OSHA regulations that apply to that specific business. It will cover regulations such as bloodborne pathogen exposure, respiratory protection, spill response, confined space safety (important for crematories, freezers and cemeteries), and more.

The customized Funeral Home and Cemetery OSHA Manual is available to NFDA members for $625 and to nonmembers for $695.

CST can also develop a customized OSHA Compliance Program for Funeral Homes. This program includes custom written plans, one-year of unlimited access to online training modules, electronic safety data sheets, quarterly insights and one-hour of dedicated virtual compliance consulting.

The program covers vital OSHA requirements: emergency action and fire safety; bloodborne pathogens, hazard communications, formaldehyde exposure control, personal protective equipment, spill response and more.

The customized OSHA Compliance Program for Funeral Homes is available to NFDA members for $1,525 and to nonmembers for $1,695.

For those funeral home owners and managers who want to go the extra mile, CST offers a customized OSHA Safety Audit and In-person Training. When a funeral home purchases this program, Harrison will fly to their location to conduct an onsite inspection of the physical facility and OSHA-related records in accordance with OSHA standards. Staff will receive annual training in bloodborne pathogens, hazard communications and other topics that is required by OSHA. The funeral home owner or manager will also receive a written corrective action plan so they can resolve any issues found during the inspection.

The customized OSHA Safety Audit and In-person Training is available to NFDA members for $1,795 and to nonmembers for $2,395.

For more information or to purchase one or more of the customized OSHA compliance tools, visit the NFDA Store, www.nfda.org/Store and click on the “Consulting and Services”; you can also call your NFDA member services representative at 800-228-6332 for more information.
