There have been several questions about FEMA funeral assistance for deaths due to COVID-19. Please note that the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency has not impacted the currently ongoing eligibility period for COVID-19 Funeral Assistance.
In other words, deaths related to COVID-19 that occur on or after May 11, 2023, may still be eligible for COVID-19 Funeral Assistance, assuming they meet all other eligibility requirements.
Since FEMA began accepting applications for COVID-19 Funeral Assistance in April 2021, the agency has provided nearly $3 billion in assistance, with an average award of $6,400.
FEMA previously has announced that it will continue to provide funeral assistance until September 30, 2025.
Please continue to encourage families you have served who experience the death of a loved to COVID to apply for FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance. Information about how to apply can be found on FEMA’s website. Information for funeral service professionals can be found in NFDA’s COVID-19 Information Hub.
