To say that all of us are deeply saddened by the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, seems inadequate given the tremendous loss of so many innocent lives. Our hearts are with the individuals and families who have been impacted by this terrible act, especially the families who are grieving the death of a loved one.
Funeral service professionals in Texas, particularly those in the Uvalde area, are becoming personally involved with this tragedy, organizing efforts to support families during their time of grief. NFDA thanks these funeral professionals for the care and compassion they are demonstrating to families and their beloved community of Uvalde.
The funeral homes in Uvalde have committed to offering funerals at no charge to the families; several vendors are providing merchandise at no charge.
NFDA has reached out to the Texas Funeral Directors Association and the funeral homes in Uvalde to offer support as they serve victims’ families. We have also sent grief resources to Uvalde to assist families as they begin to grapple with their loss.

The Funeral Service Foundation announced that it will deploy up to $50,000 in emergency assistance and grief support funding, and is now accepting donations for its Crisis Response Fund in the wake of Tuesday’s mass shooting, which left 19 children and two adults dead in Uvalde, Texas. The TFDA has been getting inquiries from funeral homes and individuals across the country on how they can help the families affected by the tragedy in Uvalde. A fund has been established so those who wish to donate to the funeral homes that have offered to donate their services can do so quickly and in trust to the TFDA to allocate.
