Recently, The Association Health Plans Act of 2021 (H.R. 4547) was introduced in the House. This bill would expand healthcare options and lower costs for small businesses and individuals that belong to an association.
What is an association health plan?
In its simplest sense, an association health plan (AHP) is a type of group medical insurance for employers that allows smaller companies (as well as freelancers and the self-employed) to access the health insurance savings associated with large group medical coverage. AHPs offer small employers – and their employees – significant savings on quality health care that is typically only available to larger companies.
Why should I care?
As an NFDA member, whether you are an employer or a funeral home employee, chances are health insurance has been a challenge. It can be costly and, in order to lower costs, you have to sacrifice on quality coverage.
If this legislation were to pass Congress and be signed into law by the president, NFDA could offer an AHP to members that has comprehensive coverage, access to quality care and is affordable.
What can I do?
The first step to NFDA being able to offer an AHP is for The Association Health Plans Act of 2021 to pass the House.
