On December 11, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order, “Providing for the Closing of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on December 24, 2020.” But while many federal government offices will be closed, Department of Veterans Affairs national cemeteries and the National Cemetery Scheduling Office will conduct burial and committal services on that day. VA national cemeteries will honor all burials scheduled prior to December 15. Since December 15, the VA’s scheduling office and the national cemeteries stopped scheduling interment services for December 24. Cemetery staffing on December 24 will be limited to supporting scheduled services and may vary by cemetery. However, all VA national cemeteries will remain open for visitation. Veterans, their family members and funeral homes can schedule burial and committal services at VA national cemeteries by calling 800-535-1117 and faxing supporting documentation to 866-900-6417.
