NFDA members are invited to join with their colleagues around the world in observing World United for Life Day on September 20, 2020, a day commemorating the unique lives of those who have died and celebrating the unique stories of people who are still living.
This year, according to event organizers, the event will have even greater significance as it will be dedicated to families who were not able to have the funeral they wanted due to the pandemic. Organizers also hope to recognize the work of funeral professionals who continue to care for grieving families in spite of the challenges presented by the pandemic.
World United for Life Day was established in 2012 by ALPAR (Asociación Gremial Latinoamericana de Cemeterios y Servicios Funerarios), an association of funeral directors and cemeterians in Latin America. Last year, tens of thousands of people around the world participated in World United for Life Day events.
Over the years, funeral homes around the world have held a variety of community outreach events to celebrate World United for Life Day:
- Balloon and butterfly releases
- Remembrance walls
- Educational workshops on a variety of topics
- Candle-lighting ceremonies
- Planting trees or flowers
- Art-based activities
- Concerts
- Social media campaigns
- And more!
