Since the start of the new session of Congress in January 2019, NFDA has been working to improve veterans' burial benefits by advocating for the Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts (BRAVE) Act (S. 598/H.R. 497) in Congress.
This bill will ensure that all veterans, regardless of where they die, will be treated equally and that the benefit is automatically increased based on the Consumer Price Index. Learn more here.
Given the current pandemic, it may seem like an unusual time to continue advocating for the BRAVE Act, but this is actually the perfect time to do so.
As businesses throughout the country, such as retail stores and restaurants, shut down and lay off workers during this pandemic, many families will struggle to afford a dignified final disposition for their loved ones, including veterans. The BRAVE Act will go a long way to helping families lay their beloved veteran to rest with honor.
On behalf of the more than 4,500 veterans who have tested positive for COVID-19 and the nearly 300 veterans who have died, NFDA has reached out to leaders in Congress in a letter and asked that they include the BRAVE Act in the next coronavirus relief package. We need your help! You know firsthand how much updating this benefit would mean for veterans’ families in your community. We ask you take a few moments to urge your Senators and Representative to ensure the brave men and women who have served our country in uniform receive the farewell they have earned.
Congress is now negotiating the 4th COVID relief bill. We need House and Senate Leadership to weigh in and ensure this important legislation is included in this package. We ask you to contact your 2 Senators and Representative and encourage them to support this effort.
