A new episode of NFDA's podcast, A Brush With Death, will be available Tuesday, January 14. Our guest is Sara E. Murphy, Ph.D., a faculty member at the University of Rhode Island and an expert on death, dying and bereavement. Disenfranchised grief is grief not openly acknowledged, validated or publicly observed. Common when a relationship is not recognized, the loss is not recognized (suicide, homicide, substance abuse, etc.) or the griever is not recognized, the grief is still very real. Sara will dive into disenfranchised grief: its causes, effects and how funeral professionals can best serve clients struggling with it.
New podcast episodes are released by the second Tuesday of each month. Episodes can be found on iTunes, Google Play Music, Spotify, Stitcher, Pandora and other apps (e.g., Pocket Casts, Overcast) through which podcasts can be downloaded. You can also visit the NFDA website, www.nfda.org/abrushwithdeath, to listen to current and past episodes.
