Last March, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) introduced the Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts Act (BRAVE Act – H.R. 1212) in the house. The BRAVE Act seeks to improve benefits for veterans who meet eligibility requirements; ensure all non-service connected veteran deaths are treated equally, regardless of where a veteran dies; and index benefits for inflation, alleviating the need for further adjustments from Congress.
As of February 19, the bill has 47 cosponsors and is receiving support from both sides of the aisle. Is your representative a co-sponsor? Check here (cosponsors are usually updated once per week).
In July 2017, Sens. Gary Peters (D-MI) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the BRAVE Act in the Senate. NFDA has begun significant outreach to senators, and conducting Hill visits in the Senate in the coming weeks.
During the 2018 NFDA Advocacy Summit, April 25-27, the BRAVE Act will be one of the issues NFDA members will discuss with their members of Congress. We hope you will consider joining us in D.C. for the Advocacy Summit and showing your support for our nation’s veterans.
