In late August, Wreaths Across America (WAA, Columbia Falls) and the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) signed a memorandum of understanding between the two national nonprofit organizations. Under this agreement, they will focus on engagement with WAA volunteers and ALA members to create opportunities for joint community service activities that raise awareness of both groups’ missions.

ALA will also expand its participation in WAA’s Group Sponsorship Program, which raises awareness and sponsorships to place wreaths on the graves of veterans and support WAA programming, while also offering ALA an option for fundraising. ALA will use the funds earned through this program to support the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation, which positively impacts the lives of U.S. veterans, the military and their families by funding ALA programs.

Best known for its annual wreath-laying ceremonies, WAA’s yearlong mission is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve and teach the next generation the value of freedom. Now in nearly 4,000 communities nationwide, WAA volunteers are committed to sharing the mission through education and stories of service and success.

Founded in 1919, ALA is one of the oldest patriotic membership organizations in the United States and has been essential in increasing veterans’ welfare and rehabilitation nationwide. ALA is a community of volunteers serving veterans, the military and their families.
