Flanner Buchanan(Indianapolis), a four-generation local business, celebrated its milestone 140th anniversary with a donation to Flanner House, a community center that helps people move to a place of self-reliance and self-sufficiency. The donation comprises the use of 1.5 acres of land, valued at $140,000, for the construction and use of three greenhouses near Flanner House. The greenhouses will create 12 to 15 full-time area jobs, as well as provide fresh produce in an area of the city known as a “food desert.” Groundbreaking was expected in April.

Flanner Buchanan has a longstanding relationship with Flanner House, dating back to its founding by Frank W. Flanner in 1898. Throughout the years, the Buchanan family has stayed committed to Flanner House, a national model for social service agencies.

“I take great pride in my family’s 200-year history in Indiana, and we’re pleased to partner with Flanner House on this unique greenhouse project,” said Bruce W. Buchanan, fourth-generation owner and CEO of Flanner Buchanan.

Since its founding, Flanner Buchanan has been an industry leader nationally and locally. It was the first mortuary to employ a female embalmer, the first to use electric cars for funerals and the first to establish a memorial dedicated to a state National Guard – the Hoosier Patriot Memorial at its Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
