Heath Bowen, CFSP was inaugurated President of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association (AFDA) at the organization’s 132nd Annual Convention on June 19, 2018 at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama. Heath has served on the association’s Executive Board since June 2015.

Presently, Mr. Bowen serves as Senior Manager of Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlors in Birmingham. He is married to JoAnne Robinson Bowen. Heath and his wife just welcomed their first grandchild, Thomas Heath Bowen to the family July 9, 2018.

Bowen will oversee the daily operations of the AFDA, a 220-member non-profit trade association that works in conjunction with the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) to better serve and provide services to funeral service practitioners and their client families. In his role as President, Mr. Bowen will be very active insofar as legislative activities impacting funeral service are concerned, both for the State of Alabama, as well as on the federal level.

“My 32 years in funeral service has given me a well-rounded view of funeral service,” says Bowen. “It is an honor to serve and work with fellow professionals. Surprisingly, you can actually find what funeral directors do mentioned in the Bible. Burying the dead is listed as one of the 7 Corporal Acts of Mercy. What we do is so very vital to the families that have entrusted us to care for their dead. I am proud to be a part of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association and funeral service collectively.”
