Bill Sullivan Jr.
retired funeral director and former president and CEO of Sullivan Funeral Home, Marshall, Texas, died June 11, 2023, at age 94. Sullivan attended the College of Marshall, North Texas State University and Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science; he served in the U.S. Army medical division during the Korean War.
Sullivan was a third-generation funeral director who served as president and CEO of Sullivan Funeral Home, Sullivan-Austin Street, Sullivan Life Insurance Company, Sullivan Monument Company, Colonial Gardens and Algoma cemeteries, and was part-owner of Marshall Floral Company. He was a member of NFDA, National Selected Morticians and Order of the Golden Rule. He also served as past president of the East Texas Funeral Directors Association and as a former board member with the Texas Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association.
Active in the Marshall community his entire life, Sullivan was a member and former president of Marshall Rotary Club, a director of Marshall Chamber of Commerce, Harrison County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Harrison County Historical Society. He was a 32nd degree master mason and a member of Marshall Masonic Lodge No. 22 AF&AM, as well as Dallas Scottish Rite, Gray Commandry of the York Rite and Sharon Temple. As a member of Sharon Temple, he served as president of Harrison County Crippled Children’s Association. He also was a member of IOOF Lodge, American Legion, Club 25 and Sons of the Republic of Texas. He was a director of both First Federal Savings and Loan Association and First National Bank of Marshall.
He is survived by daughters Sherry and Cindy, three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
