George Lesicko
retired funeral director and owner, Lesicko Funeral Home, Livingston, Illinois, died October 18, 2021, at age 91.
Lesicko served during the Korean War (1953-55) as a corporal with the 602nd Field Artillery stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He graduated from the College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, Missouri. Along with his wife, Clara, he purchased Burgett Funeral Home in New Douglas and Livingston, Illinois, in 1961 and provided 60 years of service to the communities. He was honored for 50 years of service as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 2006.
Lesicko was a past member of NFDA and the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, and past president of the Madison County Funeral Directors Association. He was also a past Madison County deputy coroner. Lesicko and his wife were pioneers in EMT service, receiving their training while operating Lesicko Ambulance Service from 1961-76.
Lesicko served as a past commander of Tobias Bilyeu American Legion Post 710 in New Douglas, where he was a member for more than 60 years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Staunton American Legion Post 362, the New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department and the Madison County Firefighters and 3M Firefighters associations. He served as a trustee for the New Douglas Fire Protection District for more than 53 years and as district secretary. Lesicko also served as secretary for New Douglas Cemetery.
He is survived by sons Gerald, Jeffrey and Jerome, a funeral director at Lesicko Funeral Home.
