Funeral Home Owners

COVID-19
Home COVID-19 Funeral Home Owners

Important Advisories

  • Your local and/or state public health officials may be making recommendations for the care of decedents and/or public gatherings that are more stringent than what the CDC and federal government have recommended. In these cases, you should defer to your state and/or local public health officials.
  • The CDC has advised if you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and/or develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice. If you are concerned about a potential exposure, this risk assessment for healthcare personnel (HCP) from the CDC may be useful.

Funeral Home Owners

Updated: November 5, 2020

As a funeral home owner, it is your responsibility to protect the health and safety of your staff. We encourage you to prepare a plan of action for your business and then meet with all full- and part-time staff – from funeral directors to administrative assistants to maintenance staff – to ensure everyone is aware of the role they can plan in keeping themselves, their co-workers and client families safe. As new information comes up, share it with all staff.

In addition to discussing your plan of action with staff, also be in communication with other third-parties you may work with such as florists, caterers, removal services, etc.

As revised, the regulations allow employers to require employees to use employer-provided paid leave (paid time off, vacation, etc.) and expanded family and medical leave concurrently, except in certain circumstances. Visit SESCO's COVID-19 Resource Page for details.
