The most important question a grieving family asks is “Can we see her?” Presenters will reinforce the importance of restorative art in funeral service and share empowering stories which demonstrate why a memory picture is so valuable to the families you serve.

The Anatomy of the Facial Features

Presenters will reinforce the importance of restorative art in funeral service and share empowering stories which demonstrate why a memory picture is so valuable to the families you serve.

Live Application Part I: Cranial Reconstruction, Skullzo
Michael Burns, Dean of Faculty and Students, PIMS
Nick Ricci, Instructor, PIMS
Hands-on lab: The foundation of a successful restoration starts with the skull. Presenters will emphasize the importance of repairing fractures and possible cranial damage while discussing the significance of cranial sutures and anatomical markings. Learn the pre-restoration steps to ensure a clean, firm, and dry foundation for the restorative techniques.

Live Application Part II: Wound Filler and Wax Application, Headzo
Michael Burns, Dean of Faculty and Students, PIMS
Nick Ricci, Instructor, PIMS
Hands-on lab: A combination of demonstration and lecture will cover situations embalmers encounter when working with restorative art cases. Discover practical application techniques for using different waxes and wound fillers while working on your own Headzo.

1:15 - 3:15 p.m.
Live Application Part III: Cosmetic Techniques, Headzo
Michael Burns, Dean of Faculty and Students, PIMS
Nick Ricci, Instructor, PIMS
Hands-on lab: Presenters will discuss and demonstrate different methods of cosmetic application, as well as different types of cosmetic products. Learn about color theory, techniques for using mortuary cosmetics and other small tips to create a more proficient cosmetic application. Practice application with your Headzo using a wide range of cosmetics. While the application is taking place, presenters will offer expert advice regarding contents of a restorative art kit.

3:15 - 3:30 p.m.

3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Live Application Part IV: Hair Placement Techniques, Headzo
Michael Burns, Dean of Faculty and Students, PIMS
Nick Ricci, Instructor, PIMS
Hands-on lab: Presenters will discuss and demonstrate different methods of hair placements. You’ll learn the anatomy of hair growth and hair layering and perform the application of facial hair. Presenters will offer tips on how to create and list restorative art prices on the General Price List.

Embalming Risk Management
Christopher Farmer, NFDA General Counsel
NFDA General Counsel Chris Farmer will explore the malpractice risks embalmers (like doctors and hospitals) may face from consumers unsatisfied with embalming results. He will discuss how a malpractice lawsuit is conducted and offer commonsense steps and legal forms to help embalmers reduce liability exposure.

Hands-on lab: Presenters will discuss different case analysis’ while you add the finishing touches to your Headzo.

Continuing Education

This conference provides licensed funeral directors/embalmers up to 9.5 CE hours and is approved by APFSP and most state licensing boards. CE hours vary by state. It is the individual participant's responsibility before registering for any NFDA course or event to verify that it is currently approved for CE in the state/province in which the individual is licensed. Schedule subject to change.
