As of January 1, 2004, the National Funeral Directors Association’s (NFDA) enforceable Code of Professional Conduct takes effect. The code outlines various ethical and professional practices to which NFDA member funeral homes must adhere. The self-driven set of standards raises the bar for funeral directors by ensuring the highest quality professional practices of NFDA members and allows the public the ability to file a complaint.
The code addresses the obligations of the funeral professional in five key areas: 1) obligations to the Family, 2) to the Care of the Decedent, 3) to the Public, 4) to the Government and 5) to NFDA. View the entire Code of Professional Conduct.
Enforcement Procedures have been put in place to ensure action is taken in a fair and consistent manner and a Professional Conduct Committee has been established to investigate and resolve complaints.
NFDA members as well as consumers can call NFDA at any time with questions about the Code of Professional Conduct at 1-800-228-6332.
