Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) was recently honored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with a Silver Award in the Power of A Awards for its public service announcements (PSAs). Created to educate families about the importance of meaningful funerals and the value of funeral directors, the PSAs are part of NFDA’s Remembering A Life family outreach and education initiative.

NFDA was one of 39 associations to earn a Silver Award. ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global levels. The Power of A Awards reward the outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals who work tirelessly to solve problems, and strengthen lives, the workforce, the economy, and the world.

The PSAs recognized include: Funerals Are for the Living; Funeral Directors Helping Communities Heal After Tragedy; Value of Funerals and Funeral Directors; Honoring a Life Lost to Overdose; Death of a Parent by Opioid Overdose; and Tragic Death.

NFDA is sharing the PSAs with consumers on the Remembering A Life website, www.rememberingalife.com, and social media sites. Consumers who, after viewing a PSA, choose to visit the Remembering A Life website will find a wide range of information about planning a meaningful tribute, service options available and beginning the grief journey. Consumers can also search for an NFDA-member funeral home using the “Find a Funeral Home” feature.

The PSAs are available to NFDA members for use in their communities. (Two of the PSAs - Value of Funerals and Funeral Directors and Funeral Directors Helping Communities Heal After Tragedy – are available at no charge to nonmembers). The PSAs can be posted on a funeral home website, shared on social media, or used as part of community presentations. The PSAs may also, in certain circumstances, be appropriate to share with a family that is planning a service.

Funeral professionals can view the PSAs by visiting the NFDA website, www.nfda.org/psas, which also features information about requesting the free PSA embed codes for use on a firm’s website and social media.
