What’s On Your Bucket List?

October 26, 2019

For Immediate Release: October 28, 2019

Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) is offering funeral professionals a unique opportunity to learn from some of the profession’s top experts and revel in once-in-a-lifetime experiences with the 2020 Bucket List Adventures.

These business-building seminars will cover topics such as succession planning, leadership, human resources, funeral home finances, marketing and more.

All Aboard the Napa Wine Train – February 5-7, 2020, River Terrace Inn, Napa, Calif.

Cost – Member: $649; Nonmember: $779; Guest: $500

Attendees will spend a day getting a world-class education from funeral service experts, including Bob Gordon, president of Cypress Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park; Tim Bridgers, senior vice president, funeral home and cemetery lending of Live Oak Bank; Welton Hong, founder of Ring Ring Marketing; Steve Shaffer, CEO of Homesteaders Life Company; and an expert from the Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions professional development team (Angelique Simpson or Mary Russell).

The following day, attendees will hop aboard an elegantly restored railcar for a six-hour adventure through California’s fabled Wine Country. The adventure includes stops at two vineyards – V. Sattui Winery and Grgich Hills Estate – for tours and tastings and a gourmet four-course Napa-style lunch aboard the train.

Hit a Home Run – June 5, 2020, Yankee Stadium, New York, N.Y.

Cost – Member: $549; Nonmember: $679; Guest: $299

Matthew R. Bailey, president of B.C. Bailey Funeral Home in Wallingford, Conn.; Tim Bridgers, senior vice president, funeral home and cemetery lending of Live Oak Bank; Dean Lambert, senior vice president of marketing and communications for Homesteaders Life Company; and an expert from the Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions professional development team (Angelique Simpson or Mary Russell) are on our team of all-star presenters who will help attendees learn how to hit a home in their business during this day of dynamic education.

After a day of learning, attendees will spend the evening getting the MVP treatment at Yankee Stadium. In addition to a behind-the-scenes tour of this legendary ballpark, they’ll watch the Yankees take on the Tampa Bay Rays from a luxury suite.

Hole in One at the Ryder Cup – September 21-23, 2020, NFDA Headquarters, Brookfield, Wis., and Whistling Straits Golf Course, Sheboygan, Wis.

Cost – Members: $750; Nonmembers: $880; Guest: $600

Some funeral service education events include a round of golf. But only NFDA gives funeral directors a chance to see golf superstars in action at one of the sport’s largest international tournaments, the Ryder Cup.

Funeral service legends, including Tim Bridgers, senior vice president, funeral home and cemetery lending of Live Oak Bank; Steve Shaffer, CEO of Homesteaders Life Company; and an expert from the Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions professional development team (Angelique Simpson or Mary Russell), will help funeral homes avoid a “slice” in their business during a day of exceptional education.

The following day, attendees will board a bus to Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wis., and the 2020 Ryder Cup. There, they will find themselves walking along with the world’s greatest golfers during the practice round. Attendees will also have special access to a hospitality tent on the course.

Registration is now open for the 2020 Bucket List Adventures; visit www.nfda.org/adventures or call 800-228-6332 for complete details on what is included with each adventure and to register. Space for each of these adventures is limited; attendees are encouraged to secure their spot before these events sell out.

The 2020 NFDA Bucket List Adventures are sponsored by Homesteaders Life Company, Live Oak Bank and Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions.

NFDA is the world's leading and largest funeral service association representing more than 20,000 individual members who represent nearly 11,000 funeral homes in the United States and 49 countries around the world.
