For Immediate Release: October 1, 2018
Brookfield, Wis. – As funeral professionals from around the world gather in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the 2018 National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) International Convention & Expo, they will experience a taste of Hollywood as the association announces the winners of the Remembering A Life Film Contest and hosts a viewing of the award-winning film Getting Grace. The NFDA Convention will take place October 14-17.
And the Winner Is…
On Monday, October 15, during the Opening General Session of the 2018 NFDA Convention, the association will announce the winners of the Remembering A Life Film Contest. The winning films, along with several honorable mentions, will make their debut during the NFDA Convention. Attendees will be able to view them in the Remembering A Life Area in the Convention Center.
NFDA invited amateur and professional filmmakers from around the world to create films that help convey the importance and power of memorializing lives. Three winning films were selected for their ability to inspire others to remember the lives of their loved ones.
NFDA has arranged for its members to use the films selected as winners or honorable mentions to promote the value of funerals and memorialization, such as by posting films on their firm’s website or social media sites or using them in community presentations.
Remembering A Life is a new NFDA initiative that educates and empowers consumers to make informed decisions about funerals and memorialization. Remembering A Life also highlights the unique expertise of funeral directors in planning a meaningful service. It is a multi-faceted approach that includes, not only the newly-introduced Remembering A Life website, but also printed materials, social media and a comprehensive public relations strategy.
In the Remembering A Life Area in the convention center, attendees can learn all about this new consumer website and how they can use Remembering A Life tools and resources to educate families about planning and preplanning meaningful funerals and grief.
Get Grace at the NFDA Convention
Earlier this year, Getting Grace got big buzz as is played in select cities and film festivals around the country. If attendees have not yet had a chance to see this award-winning film, which showcases the funeral profession in a positive light, they’ll be able to do so at the NFDA Convention. The association will host a screening and discussion with the film’s director, Daniel Roebuck, on Sunday, October 14 at 3:45 p.m.
Getting Grace is a delightful movie about Grace, a spunky teenage girl dying of cancer who crashes a funeral home to find out what will happen to her after she dies. Teaching the awkward funeral director how to celebrate life while making her own funeral arrangements, she sets in motion a plan that affects all of those around her in unexpected and positive ways.
During the discussion on Sunday, Roebuck will share information about how funeral homes can bring Getting Grace to their community as an outreach initiative for their funeral home. Several funeral homes have already done so and found it to be a rewarding experience that helped them connect with people they may not ordinarily reach.
Roebuck will also be appearing in the NFDA Publications Booth (#1943) in the NFDA Expo Hall to answer questions about how funeral homes can bring Getting Grace to their community.
Additional information about how funeral directors can bring Getting Grace to their community is available on the film’s website, www.gettinggracethemovie.com; click the “Funeral Directors” link at the top of the page and, where prompted to enter a code, click the link and enter “Funeral” (case sensitive). Roebuck is also extending an exclusive 10 percent discount on the licensing fee to NFDA members.
The NFDA International Convention & Expo is the world’s largest gathering of funeral directors.
