NFDA Shares Concerns About Proposed VA Burial Benefits Regulation

Posted: January 13, 2014

NFDA recently sent a letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) expressing concerns about proposed changes to regulations governing funeral and burial benefits. The changes would, among other things, authorize the payment of flat-rate service-connected and non-service-connected burial allowances and the plot or interment allowance at the statutory maximum amount. The change would also automatically pay surviving spouses certain burial benefits when eligibility for those benefits can be determined from evidence of record.

NFDA believes this proposed rule goes a long way toward addressing many issues you have shared over the years; however, some of the changes are of concern.
