1 Grief Management: The Role of the Funeral Service Practitioner
This online course presents a multi-faceted program for managing grief through understanding the dynamics of stress. A comprehensive guideline for individual funeral directors to develop personal stress management programs is presented, based on thorough research and tested methods. The course introduces grief theories, presenting an overview of the effects of grief in a practical guideline for funeral directors - to help them help the bereaved.
2 Understanding Adult Grief: Developing Effective Ways to Help Adults on Their Grief Journey
This continuing education course is designed to help you as funeral directors to: (1) understand how adults grieve and (2) develop effective ways to help bereaved adults on their grief journeys. The authors will discuss myths and misconceptions about adult grief and will identify and explain the unique components of the adult grief experience, including circumstantial factors that can affect grief. You will gain an understanding of the principles behind the tasks of grieving. This course consists of six sessions, an optional resource section of linked articles and information, and a course test for obtaining continuing education credit. The authors also welcome emailed questions and comments from individuals who are taking the course.
3 Understanding a Child's Grief
This continuing education course is designed as a primer on childhood grief for funeral home owners, directors and staff-those who have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of grieving children as "gatekeepers of death and grief care" in their communities.
4 Understanding and Managing Grief
This online course gives the funeral service professional a general understanding of grief and some of the complicating issues surrounding grief today. A solid foundation for further grief studies, the author provides tools for funeral service professionals to assist families through the funeral and grief process. Theories and perspectives that have developed to explain and understand grief, the complicating issues surrounding grief today, and some of the mechanisms and therapeutic protocols that can be used in daily professional activities to help the bereaved during funerary activities and throughout the grieving process are examined.
