Jason G. Reed

former funeral director and most currently chief operating officer of Legacy Touch, died March 2, 2013, at age 39. Reed received his associate degree in mortuary science in 1993 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and served his apprenticeship under Kent Leasure at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, Illinois. He stayed on at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home after the Darby family purchased it and then transferred to Sunset Funeral Home in Danville in 1998. With a great passion for Sunset Memorial Park, Reed quit directing funerals in 2000 to help serve families at the cemetery. He took an opportunity to work for one of the Darby’s companies, Trigard Bronze, and worked his way up to national sales manager. Reed then became a sales manager at Citadel Management in North Carolina. He later partnered with Ray Francisco to co-found Cremation Safeguard, which provides full-circle protection of funeral homes, crematories and the families they serve. Reed caught the attention of Phillip Short at Legacy Touch, which provides identity assurance services via real-time biometric technology, and Legacy Touch purchased Cremation Safeguard in 2012. Reed had an entrepreneurial spirit, purchasing a baseball card shop in 1994 and Fortress PC in Village Mall with three partners in 2010. He is survived by wife Kristal; daughters Cierra, Allyson and Payton; son Gage; and his parents.
