Jack H. Geisel Sr.

funeral director with Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., Alum Bank, Pennsylvania, died January 20, 2013, at age 88. Geisel graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division. His unit served at Normandy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany and received four bronze stars. He returned home to become the fourth in a family of 10 funeral directors and working as a funeral director for 66 years. Geisel also served his community for more than 22 years with the Bedford County Coroner’s Office. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Coroners Association, Bedford American Legion Post #113 and Pleasantville VFW Post #9219. He was the last charter member of the Chestnut Ridge Lions Club and received the group’s Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Geisel was a member of Alum Bank United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and men’s quartet. He is survived by wife Betty; children Jack, Thomas and Linda; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
