Joe Dean Weatherford

owner of funeral homes in Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas, died January 8, 2013, at age 79. Weatherford attended Kansas City College of Mortuary Science and purchased his first funeral home, Hinton Funeral Home, Hinton, Oklahoma, with his wife, Sue, in 1955. They later moved to Fairview, Oklahoma, and purchased Fairview Funeral Home and then relocated to Lawton, Oklahoma, and owned Lawton Funeral Home. In 1971, they moved to Miami and purchased Cooper Funeral Home, with locations in Miami and Fairland, and lived in Miami until 1991, when they moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and purchased Hot Springs Funeral Home. In 1993, they moved back to Miami and retired. They’ve also been co-owners of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee, Beggs and Morris, Oklahoma, for many years. Weatherford served as president of the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association (1970-71) and was appointed to the Oklahoma Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, serving until 1991. He was a member of the Miami Rotary Club, Miami Main Street, Miami Chamber of Commerce and First United Methodist Church. He is survived by wife Sue, daughters Sherrie and Shelly, and two grandchildren.
