Jim C. Wright


partner in Wright Funeral Home, Wheeler, Texas, died January 21, 2012, at age 75. Wright attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1962 from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, after which he moved to Wheeler with his wife to become partners in Wright-Denson Funeral Home, which became Wright Funeral Home in 1970. He served on the Wheeler ISD School Board from 1967-74 and from 1986-90. He was appointed by then-Gov. George W. Bush to serve as commissioner of the Texas Funeral Service Commission from 1999-09. Wright was named Man of the Year by the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce in 1991, Pioneer Funeral Director of the Year by the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association in 2010 and, with his wife, received the Pioneer Spirit Award in 2010 from the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by wife Sharon; sons David, Mark and Scott; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
