Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Tessino

of Woody Funeral Home, Richmond, Virginia, died April 15, 2012, at age 56. Tessino received his bachelor’s degree from West Point in 1978 and earned master’s degrees from Murray State University and the University of Southern California. He also earned an AA.S in funeral services from Tidewater Community College. From 1979-89, he was a U.S. Army helicopter test pilot and new systems project manager for the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. After his military service, he created a thriving chain of Pac-N-Mail stores in the Tidewater region and owned and operated them for 13 years. He then built a career in funeral service, interning as a director for Woody Funeral Home. He was an active member of the American Legion, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Virginia Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association. He is survived by partner Penny Brick, son Daniel, daughter Jennifer and a grandson.
