Charles W. Iles

founder of Iles Funeral Homes, Des Moines, Iowa, died December 25, 2011, at age 78. Iles earned a business degree from the University of Iowa and then graduated from St. Louis School of Mortuary Science. He established Westover Funeral Home in 1960 and later founded Iles Funeral Homes, which today includes five additional locations, including the historic Dunn’s Funeral Home on Grand Avenue. Iles was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and served as secretary for many years. He was also a member of NFDA, Preferred Funeral Directors International, Selected Independent Funeral Homes and various other organizations that pertained to his business. A generous benefactor toward many nonprofit institutions, he was a strong proponent of philanthropy and community service. He is survived by wife Joanne; sons Charles and Mark; daughter Diana; their mother, Pat; and eight grandchildren.
