NFDA Celebrates Congressional Action to Honor Veterans’ Service and Sacrifice November 19, 2024 Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed “The Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act” (H.R. 8371), a comprehensive omnibus package of veterans legislation. Among its many provisions, the legislation includes a vital update to veterans’ burial benefits – and allowance for veterans who die from a non-service-connected disability at home while receiving hospice care furnished by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), a longstanding advocate for improving veterans’ funeral and burial benefits, strongly supported this legislation.
