Survey: Unclaimed Veteran Remains September 13, 2018 NFDA is working with Vistra Communications, to conduct a brief online survey regarding the issue of unclaimed veteran remains. Vistra was recently awarded a contract from the VA’s National Cemetery Administration to research the issue of unclaimed veteran remains. The study is the result of a requirement issued by Congress in 2016 to study this issue. Throughout the country, there are reports of the unclaimed remains of veterans being stored in various locations because no one has claimed them. The goal of the study is to examine the scope of the problem, look at what is currently being done, and recommend steps for improving the process of providing proper interment for these veterans in VA national cemeteries or state or tribal veteran cemeteries. NFDA and Vistra would very much appreciate you taking the time to complete this important short online survey. The data gathered as a result of this survey will be used to help estimate the number of unclaimed veteran remains, evaluate existing procedures relating to the claiming and burial of these remains and recommend appropriate legislative or administrative action for future Congressional consideration.
