The Latest News from OSHA July 29, 2018 Scott Mugno, the President Donald Trump’s nominee for Assistant Labor Secretary and head of OSHA, survived Senate committee confirmation hearings in 2017 and again earlier this year learned last week that his nomination has been put on hold. Mugno, the former vice president for safety, sustainability and vehicle maintenance at FedEx Ground, will not likely be voted on by the full Senate any time soon. His nomination appears to have been tabled indefinitely, certainly put behind Senate consideration of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Last week, the House Appropriations Committee approved its 2019 spending bill for Labor/OSHA. In a marathon 13-hour session, the committee reduced OSHA’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget, but only slightly. There is now a rush to get all twelve federal agency appropriations bills though the House and the Senate before government funding runs out September 30, 2018.There is no schedule for Senate budget consideration, although last year, the Senate voted to increase OSHA’s budget.
