Q & A: Risks of Formaldehyde Exposure

Posted: May 13, 2011

For several years, NFDA has belonged to the Formaldehyde Council now part of the American Chemical Council (ACC). This group is composed of all major formaldehyde manufacturers and users. It provides significant scientific and related materials on formaldehyde use. This information is used to provide a balance to information published by various federal agencies and other groups. It is highly credible and a resource NFDA finds extremely useful.

The ACC has issued a very helpful question-and-answer document that provides a useful, east-to-understand analysis of the recent evaluation of formaldehyde and it's possible link to leukemia by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences.

You can find the ACC's Q&A document on the NFDA website.

Safe use of formaldehyde in the prep room is a primary concern for NFDA. NFDA has engaged in many efforts to keep you informed about the risks of formaldehyde and protect your health and safety in the workplace. Most recently, NFDA issued new best management practices for formaldehyde use in the prep room and a study on proper prep room ventilation.
