Requirements

• Human remains inhumated for less than 5 years not embalmed must be placed in a watertight coffin containing absorbent material and must be fitted with a special filtering/ purifying device
• Human remains inhumated for less than 5 years embalmed must be placed in a wooden coffin at least 1 inch thick or steel at least .8mm thick. The filter/purifying device is NOT required
• Coffin must be placed in an outer packaging/crate with full panels made of wood or fiberboard or strong canvas cover.
• French citizens being returned to France for burial must have a seal from The French Consulate on the outside of the outer coffin. In transit human remains through France for burial outside France do not need the Consular seal.
