The Top-rated 2012 NFDA Convention & Expo Workshop!
(1 CE hour)

Reduce your liability exposure for embalming malpractice!
Like doctors and hospitals, embalmers can face costly malpractice suits from unsatisfied clients. Funeral director/embalmer and mortuary college educator Jzyk Ennis and NFDA General Counsel Scott Gilligan combine their extensive legal and embalming liability experience to explain the risks you face and the steps you and your firm should be taking to reduce liability exposure. They will cover:

  • Elements and steps of an embalming malpractice case
  • The role of expert witnesses in malpractice cases
  • Embalming logs and other protective documentation
  • Commonsense steps and basic legal forms to reduce liability exposure

Presenters: Jzyk Ennis is a funeral service education instructor at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, and a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville, Alabama. T. Scott Gilligan, NFDA general counsel, owns Gilligan Law Offices, Cincinnati, Ohio. He represents NFDA in matters dealing with the FTC Funeral Rule and conducts seminars nationwide on legal liabilities faced by death care professionals, as well as Funeral Rule compliance and employment law issues.
