Leola Murphy

co-owner of Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta, Maine, died January 27, 2013, at age 84. Murphy owned the funeral home with her husband, funeral director Leo J. Murphy, since 1962 and served as treasurer of the corporation. She was very involved in her community: a past secretary of St. Mary’s Women’s Club, chairperson of the first fundraiser to build St. Andrew Church and a charter member of the St. Mary’s and St. Andrew’s Canado-American. Murphy also gave her time and knitting ability to many organizations. She was active in the funeral home until a few years ago. She is survived by husband Leo; sons Patrick, Timothy and Michael; daughters Dorothy, Barbara and Kathryn; 11 grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren. Sons Michael and Patrick are also funeral directors, and Patrick serves on the Maine Funeral Directors Association board.
