James Wood “Jimmie” Rose

president emeritus with Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, Coats and Four Oaks, North Carolina, died in July 2012 at age 82. Rose attended UNC-Chapel Hill and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, earning his funeral service license in 1953. He then joined his father in Rose and Company, a furniture store and funeral home. He remained active in funeral service and was a member of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association, serving as its president in 1974-75. Rose was a member of the Benson Chamber of Commerce, serving as president, and received the Citizen of the Year award in 1961. He chaired the committee to help locate I-40 near Benson. He was also on the board of directors of the State Annual Singing Convention. He was a trustee for Campbell University and served on its presidential board of advisors, the advisory board of the Divinity School and the School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is survived by wife Miriam; daughters Anne, Ellen and Jane; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
