Henry Samuel Carter


former funeral director and chaplain with Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, died May 12, 2012, at age 87. Carter enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Pharmacist’s Mate in World War II. Following his discharge, he operated an Amoco service station and later worked in the personnel department at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. Feeling the call to preach, Carter received degrees from High Point University and the Chandler School of Theology of Emory University. He served several congregations in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1955-90. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joann. He is survived by wife Jane, sons Donald and Samuel, daughter Nancy and one grandson.
