Archie Decatur Willis Jr.

president and owner of McAlister Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, died May 2, 2012, at age 85. Willis had a distinguished career of 41 years as a chief warrant officer 4 in the U.S. Army Reserves. He went on to work for Standard Oil in Walterboro. Willis returned to Charleston, South Carolina, after the death of his two uncles to continue the funeral service tradition established by his grandfather, John McAlister, in 1886. The business continues today as McAlister-Smith Funeral Home. He is survived by son Archie III, CFSP, now president and co-owner of the firm, a past president of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association and former NFDA Policy Board representative from South Carolina. He is also survived by a granddaughter.
