Wilfred J. “Bill” Laurendeau Jr.

founder of Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, Billerica, Massachusetts, died February 23, 2011, at age 85. Laurendeau entered the Marines in 1943, serving until 1945, being discharged as sergeant. He was a Billerica fireman from 1953-56 and then a Billerica police officer, retiring in 1973. Upon the sudden death of his uncle, Dan Sweeney, Laurendeau became a funeral director in 1959, moved the family business from Everett to Billerica and opened Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home in 1960. Owner of the former Martin Trailer Service in Billerica, Laurendeau was a founding member of the Billerica Municipal Employees Credit Union, serving as chairman of the board of directors from its inception in 1971 until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived by sons William and Dean and one granddaughter.
