Elmer Geissler

funeral director with Featheringhill Mortuary, San Diego, California, died December 9, 2011, at age 83. Geissler earned his license in 1953 and was a funeral director for 63 years, beginning his career as an ambulance driver and apprentice embalmer at a downtown San Diego funeral home. He played a key role in the wake of some of the region’s most tragic moments, including making arrangements for the 144 people killed in the 1978 PSA crash in North Park and driving the casket-bearing hearse at many memorials for law enforcement officers who had died in the line of duty. Geissler worked at Featheringhill for the last 17 years.

He is survived by wife Grace, daughter Tia and two granddaughters.
