owner and operator of Levine Chapels, Brookline, Massachusetts, died June 29, 2011, at age 58. The fourth generation of the family in funeral service, Levine joined the family business in 1983 after initially pursuing nursing, and she worked to bring more female funeral directors into the profession. Levine graduated from the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1974 and received a master’s degree in geriatric nursing from Yale University two years later. After working for a year in Chicago, Levine returned to Boston and worked for several years at Beth Israel Hospital. With her brothers not interested in the family funeral service business, she began to work for the funeral home and took over the business from her father, Paul Levine, when he died in 2003. She is survived by wife Lori Griffiths; mother Sylvia; daughters Jennie, Alexis and Jamie; son William; and one granddaughter.
