For Immediate Release: February 28, 2014
Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), the world's leading and largest funeral service association, has retained Laura C. Green, Ph.D., D.A.B.T., a top environmental health and toxicology scientist. Dr. Green will use her expertise to assist the association with providing tools and resources to help members secure approvals for new crematories.
Since the 1970s, Green has performed original research, and published and consulted on a wide variety of environmental topics. As an environmental scientist, she specializes in using sound science to perform assessments of health and environmental risk; aid in regulatory compliance and corporate decision-making; and support permitting, construction, and litigation.
Through the new NFDA Cremation Services Division, Green will assist the association in a number of ways. She will author original articles for various NFDA publications. She will also work with NFDA staff and other experts to develop a resource for association members seeking to add a crematory to their existing facilities. Additionally, Green will be available to provide individualized guidance to NFDA member firms.
"To say I'm excited to have Dr. Green join our team of cremation experts would be an understatement," said NFDA Vice President of Cremation Services Mike Nicodemus. "She has developed an expertise in addressing the relationship between cremation and health and environmental risk. She understands the complex issues involved; there's no need to bring her up to speed. I can't think of a more qualified person to help us serve the needs of NFDA members."
Green is the vice president for environmental health and toxicology for CDM Smith Inc. in Cambridge, Mass. She earned her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. Green serves on the editorial board of the journal Human and Ecological Risk Assessment; she has served as a peer-reviewer for other scientific journals, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and other government agencies.
NFDA is the world's leading and largest funeral service association, serving 19,700 individual members who represent more than 10,000 funeral homes in the United States and 39 countries around the world.
