National Funeral Directors Association: A Message of Support for the Philippines

For Immediate Release: November 14, 2013

Brookfield, Wis. – The members of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) send caring thoughts to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan that devastated Tacloban, Philippines, and the surrounding area.

In particular, association members offer their deepest condolences to the families of those who died and hope that as time passes they find comfort and healing.

NFDA members also send their prayers for the safety and well-being of those who survived the storm but are without food, shelter and other basic necessities.

Members of the NFDA staff have reached out to its members in the Philippines. NFDA's contacts there are based in a part of the Philippines that was not touched by the storm. They report that they are very busy helping families devastated by the typhoon.

NFDA members in the Philippines have not passed along any specific requests for assistance; if they do, the association will share those needs with members.

There are many well-known national and international relief organizations collecting monetary and material donations to support survivors. Please consider supporting one of these organizations during this time of great need.

When giving, please be cautious; there are individuals who take advantage of peoples' generosity during situations like this. There are many sites, such as www.guidestar.org or www.charitynavigator.org, that provide information to help people make wise decisions when choosing a charity.

NFDA is the world's leading and largest funeral service association, serving 19,700 individual members who represent more than 10,000 funeral homes in the United States and 39 countries around the world. NFDA is the trusted leader, beacon for ethics and the strongest advocate for the profession. NFDA is the association of choice because it offers funeral professionals comprehensive educational resources, tools to manage successful businesses, guidance to become pillars in their communities and the expertise to foster future generations of funeral professionals. NFDA is headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., and has an office in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.nfda.org.
